Located in the Oak Cliff, David W. Carter High school has a rich tradition and history of success in academically and athletically. Carter is a part of the Dallas Independent School District and is classified as a 4A school by the UIL. The school was built in 1965 and is named after David Wendel Carter, a doctor and member of the DISD school board.
Satterfield & Pontikes Construction is currently completing a $40.2 M renovation and addition to Carter High. Along with updating two courtyard, there will be additional exterior enhancements including a new, expanded front entry, a reconfigured bus drop off area, landscape improvements, and much more. Inside, there will be new administrative offices, a 1,900-seat competition gym, a storm shelter, a new fine arts addition, renovation of science labs and the auditorium, corridors, classrooms, the auxiliary gym and locker rooms.
The Courtyard of Champion is a vision of the Maiden Foundation to recognize notable alumni who have made a significant impact in the life of Carter High and within the community. Co Founders, Terrence and Tim Maiden are alumnus of Carter High and was inspired to contribute towards the monumental renovations to campus.
